Super Subwoofer | Design Execution & Functional Integration

Premium Audio Design Challenge

Yamaha NS-SW1000 was developed as a high-end subwoofer for discerning audio and home theater enthusiasts. As a Senior Product Designer, I was involved in design the product’s physical identity to reflect its acoustic performance, advanced circuitry, and role within premium audio ecosystems. The objective was to combine engineering excellence with a bold, architectural form.

Design Execution & Functional Integration

The product required extremely rigid construction to support its 1,000-watt digital amplifier, while the design had to minimize vibrations and allow for optimal airflow and heat dissipation. I collaborated closely with acoustic engineers and mechanical teams to balance form and function: clean geometry, seamless surfaces, and hidden interfaces emphasized the purity of sound and physical presence. The gloss black finish and sculptural volume were carefully tuned to match Yamaha’s premium visual language.

Visual Identity for High-Fidelity

More than a technical device, the Super Subwoofer was designed to become the centerpiece of a high-end audio system—a fusion of sound and sculpture. It showcased Yamaha’s ability to deliver emotional experiences not just through acoustics but also through design. This project shows how to translate complex technical constraints into iconic, resonant products.
